Maybe you’re noticing things just don’t feel the same between you and your partner. You’re both not as happy as you used to be. Maybe you’re finding solving daily problems is becoming more and more difficult.
Perhaps you’re having a difficult time connecting and trying to understand one another. Or you just don’t know how to communicate how you’re feeling.
You're both struggling - even though you’re trying so hard. You’re not sure what to do and your partner isn’t sure either.
Getting support for you and your partner can help gain clarity on your experiences and feelings, and develop healthy ways to communicate your needs and desires. Couples therapy can help you connect more deeply, learn ways to attune to one another and support each other more effectively.
MY APPROACH TO THERAPY
Relational & compassionate.
Trauma-informed & evidence-based.
Holistic & culturally humble.
Collaborative.
Couples therapy or relationship counseling involves both partners meeting together (and sometimes individually) with a therapist to better understand the dynamic between the two of you to gain greater clarity about your individual needs, how you manage conflict, your relationship goals and desires and your communication styles to resolve the issues which are bringing you to therapy.
My approach to couples therapy is rooted in being client-centered, culturally humble and compassionate while using the evidence-based therapeutic practices of Emotionally Focused Therapy. I honor the unique strengths and needs of each partner and recognize the importance of both partners working collaboratively to address issues. I also use a trauma-informed, attachment-based and relational approach to help gain more insight and understanding about your experiences.
Here are some ways my practice may support you and your partner:
Understanding the unique dynamic or “dance” between you and your partner when you’re both feeling stressed, disconnected or in conflict
Exploring each partner’s met and unmet needs
Learning and developing communication that feels consent-based and collaborative
Developing and strengthening practices to increase your connection and intimacy
If you and your partner are feeling disconnected or distant, are falling into cycles of conflict that leave you feeling unsatisfied or frustrated, gaining therapeutic support may be helpful. I can help you regain a sense of connection and back to a place that feels satisfying and secure.
