Child & Adolescent Therapy

In the Davis, CA and Greater Sacramento Area

Maybe you’re noticing your child doesn’t seem as happy as they used to be. They seem more anxious than before or more withdrawn or irritable. Maybe they’re not feeling well enough to go to school or have frequent stomach aches.

Perhaps they’ve identified they’re different than their peers in some way and don’t know how to talk about it or explain it. They have a hard time connecting with and understanding other kids.

They’re struggling — despite trying so hard. But they don’t know what to do and you’re not sure either.

Getting support for your child or teenager can help them understand their experiences and develop positive coping strategies to get them through the tough spots (because we all know there will be difficult moments). Therapy can help them feel more confident and express their most authentic selves.

MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

Relational & compassionate.

Trauma-informed & evidence-based.

Holistic & culturally humble.

Collaborative.

Child therapy (one-on-one) involves the child and the caregiver (at times) working with a therapist to understand the child’s experiences, feel relief and resolution from the experiences which are bringing them to therapy.

My approach to therapy is rooted in being client-centered, culturally humble and compassionate while using evidence-based therapeutic practices. I honor the unique strengths and needs of each child, and recognize no one approach will work for all children and teens — my approach will always be tailored to your specific child and their specific needs.

Here are some of the ways my practice may support your child or teenager:

  • Managing overwhelming feelings of anxiety or panic

  • Feeling happiness and joy while working through sadness and depression

  • Exploring their unique identity in an affirming environment

  • Learning positive relationship dynamics and how to set boundaries

  • Unlearning harsh self-criticism and moving towards self-love and acceptance

  • Fostering a holistic self-perspective which honors all parts of the individual

  • Processing and moving through past and current trauma

  • Help you better support your child and teen outside of therapy

I am here to help your child or teenager wherever they are on their journey and support them every step of the way.

Specialties

Trauma Focused -Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Sometimes children and teenagers experience painful events which can leave them with some symptoms of trauma such as: anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, inability to sleep, difficulty eating, stomach or head aches, difficulty managing relationships with peers, distrust of others or the world, poor self-esteem, self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation and anger, to name a few. These events can include the loss of someone they love through separation, divorce, or death, bullying or other negative social interactions with peers, abuse (physical, emotional, sexual), neglect, accidents, medical procedures, etc.

TF-CBT is an evidence-based practice which helps children and teenagers navigate these difficult experiences. Through TF-CBT you and your child will learn how to:

  • Manage symptoms of anxiety

  • Reduce avoidance of traumatic event

  • Provide a supportive environment for your child outside of therapy

  • Foster positive beliefs about the self, others and the world

  • Regain a higher sense of calm and emotional balance

I am here to help and support your child or teen through every step of their path to healing.
